Wastewater operators know how costly lagoon permit violations can be. Not only do they endanger public health, they can also harm ecosystems (like causing fish kills and algal blooms), contaminate drinking water and violate the Clean Water Act designed to protect water quality.
TotalFloc from Aquafix is designed to help operators stay ahead of those problems. It reduces phosphorus, improves overall effluent quality and supports long-term compliance. It’s safe, easy to apply and designed specifically for wastewater lagoons, according to Aquafix Marketing Coordinator Jalen Butteris.
“Excess phosphorus and poor effluent quality can put wastewater lagoons at risk of noncompliance,” she says. “TotalFloc offers a new powerful solution.”
TotalFloc combines beneficial bacteria with phosphorus binding materials to instantly remove phosphorus while reducing BOD, TSS and total nitrogen. It is designed for wastewater lagoon systems that struggle with excess phosphorus and poor effluent quality. The easy-to-use liquid product instantly binds and removes phosphorus while also working to reduce potentially harmful BOD, TSS and total nitrogen. By improving water quality and helping lagoons meet strict permit limits, TotalFloc keeps systems running smoothly and discharging cleaner water.
TotalFloc contains a blend of beneficial bacteria specifically selected for their ability to flocculate quickly. The bacteria produce an extracellular polysaccharide “slime-like” layer that acts as a natural glue, binding smaller particles (including debris and pollutants) together into larger, heavier clumps called flocs. These larger flocs settle out of the water column quickly through gravity, which makes the water clearer and easier to treat or discharge. The bacteria metabolize and break down organic matter, which lowers levels of BOD, TSS and total nitrogen in the wastewater. In essence, the bacteria work in tandem with the phosphorus-binding materials to rapidly clarify the water and ensure regulatory compliance.
The easy-to-apply nontoxic formula is designed specifically for wastewater lagoons, helping systems maintain compliance and avoid costly penalties. For best results, it should be sprayed evenly over the surface of the lagoon. The dosing rate varies based on lagoon conditions, loading and effluent goals. Applications should be repeated as needed to maintain effluent quality. Available sizes include 5-gallon cases, 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes.
