Wastewater screening is the crucial first step in the wastewater treatment process, designed to remove large solid materials and debris from the influent wastewater. That’s why it’s important to have the right screening system in place. The Drumscreen Monster channel rotary screen from JWC Environmental is designed to boost the efficiency and performance of municipal wastewater treatment facilities with superior solids capture, reduced maintenance downtime, and seamless integration into existing infrastructure.
“The product’s high capture rate efficiency and design make it especially successful providing headworks screening for MBR treatment facilities,” says Rob Sabol, engineering vice president for JWC Environmental. “It’s designed to be used when high levels of solids removal are required at a headworks to protect very sensitive downstream equipment. Because of the robust design and high throughput, it is also highly effective in septage receiving applications.”
The Drumscreen Monster CRS consists of a robust spiral screw housed within a high-efficiency perforated drum, which work in tandem to enhance the capture of solids from wastewater streams. This combination ensures that even the smallest particulates are removed, protecting downstream processes from clogging and reducing the load on secondary treatment systems. It is available in diameters ranging between 2 and 6 feet and supports perforation sizes of 2 mm, 3 mm and 6 mm.
The spiral screen’s inlet channel wall seals are engineered to minimize bypass, guaranteeing high capture rates and ensuring that wastewater passes through the screen as efficiently as possible. The drum inlet’s auger sealed bearing plays a crucial role in reducing friction and wear on the rotating parts. By facilitating smooth operation, it extends the lifespan of the equipment, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and replacements.
“The development staff analyzed the best features of the existing products on the market and combined them into the CRS,” says Sabol. “The lynchpin in this screen’s design is the rotating drum seal. Creating a seal that provided three levels of protection to contain solids and prevent their bypassing, was our highest priority. This will allow the CRS to produce the highest levels of capture rate efficiency of any screen in the market, with zero carryover.”
Additionally, an external brush and spray wash system continuously maintains the cleanliness of the perforations, preventing clogging and keeping the system at peak efficiency. This automatic cleaning reduces manual intervention, contributing to lower labor costs and improved reliability.
