PEOPLE/AWARDS
The Water & Wastewater Equipment, Treatment and Transport Show honored its inaugural Young Professionals Award winners. They included:
- Solishia Andico, environmental health administrator, Malibu, California
- Parul Baranwal, Ph.D., assistant director, Ames, Iowa
- Tracy Flint, senior project manager, C&L Water Solutions
- Austin Hutchison, village administrator, West Alexandria, Ohio
- Joe Rebori, assistant vice president, inquiries and engineering, BioMicrobics
Titus Wastewater Solutions, with the East Bay Municipal Utility District, received the Engineering Achievement Award from the California WEA for installation of a gaseous ozone odor control system at a district pump station.
The City of Calmar was named 2024 Community of the Year by the Iowa Rural Water Association.
Philip Grayson, chief operator of Endicott Wastewater Facility, was named the Outstanding Operator of the Year by the New York WEA.
McKenna Dolack, pretreatment coordinator and lab supervisor at the Clark Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility in Newton, North Carolina, received the 2024 Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award from the WEF.
Tahoe City Public Utility District was named the Small Collection System of the Year by the California WEA Sierra Section.
Darrin Boyer, wastewater superintendent in Plano, Illinois, retired after 33 years with the city. His successor is Nick Rossaert.
The Newton Water Treatment Plant received a North Carolina Area Wide Optimization Award from the U.S. EPA for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards for a 21st consecutive year.
James Coble, water operator for Concord, North Carolina, was named the C-Surface Operator of the Year by the North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association.
The City of Emporia, Kansas, won first place in the Best Municipal Water category at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting.
Michael Reichel, sewer district superintendent in the town of Riverhead, New York, retired after 35 years in his position.
Ted Corrigan, general manager and CEO of Des Moines Water Works, announced his retirement after 35 years.
Edward Campbell, interim director of the Portland (Oregon) Bureau, and Dawn Uchiyama, director Environmental Services, retired after 25-year careers. Quisha Light became acting director and Ting Lu became director.
