Cold weather can have significant and often severe effects on the operation and performance of a wastewater treatment facility. Because the system’s components and the physical, chemical and biological treatment responses are temperature dependent, performance efficiency can suffer under low temperature conditions. In cold temperatures, water and grit in open systems can freeze, leading to damage and operational problems. But due to the abrasive nature of grit, pump housings need to be constructed from durable, wear-resistant materials. To answer these concerns, Smith & Loveless recently introduced the PISTA PRO-PAK to aid in the grit removal process in cold climates.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with the company’s PISTA Grit Chamber systems with top-mounted grit pump configurations, the PRO-PAK combines superior grit removal technology with a pre-engineered, protective housing enclosure for efficiency and durability in extreme environmental conditions. This solution, according to Smith & Loveless, meets the evolving needs of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities by reducing costs, simplifying installation, and offering robust weather protection. The drive motor, pump and related components are factory prewired and mounted to the base, all to minimize and expedite field installation, enabling fast setup.
The PISTA PRO-PAK is built with a retractable fiberglass enclosure that provides essential freeze and environmental protection, enhancing reliable grit pumping performance in even the harshest climates. For additional resilience in extreme weather, an optional heater is available to safeguard operations. The durable steel base supports the factory-assembled grit chamber drive assembly, priming system, and controls, all of which come prewired to expedite installation and reduce on-site labor costs. Its design eliminates the need for traditional heat tracing and building construction, significantly lowering capital expenses for wastewater treatment facilities.
The PISTA PRO-PAK is easy to maintain, thanks to its above-grade components that enhance its accessibility. Compliant with NFPA 820 standards, the system prioritizes operational security and user convenience. The construction options include materials such as DURO-LAST corrosion-resistant stainless steel, which provides long-lasting durability, ensuring dependable service and reduced life cycle costs.
Compatible with all PISTA Grit Chamber models, the PRO-PAK features an efficient modular, prefabricated design.
