The Burrillville Wastewater Treatment Plant received the U.S. EPA 2023 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award for Rhode Island.
Ozzie Johnson, water and wastewater operator in Tulsa, Oklahoma, received the City Star Award of Safety Excellence from Mayor G.T. Bynum. The city said that while working on a water leak, Johnson noticed a person caught on the railroad tracks while a train was approaching and acted quickly to help the person off the tracks.
The Ashland (Kentucky) Water Treatment Plant received a 2023 Certificate of Excellence in Water Quality from the State Area Wide Optimization Program. The plant was listed in the top 1% for best water quality in the state.
Lake Havasu City achieved the Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program Bronze Level at its Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, awarded by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
Gerald Faulkner, water treatment plant operations supervisor in Kannapolis, received the 2023 A-Surface Operator of the Year award from the North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association.
John Kothenbeutel, public works director in Sartell, Minnesota, retired 30 years to the day after he was hired in 1994.
The Mission Springs Water District received awards for Small Plant of the Year and Community Engagement and Outreach Project of the Year from the California Water Environment Association and its Colorado River Basin Section. Joey McElrone was named 2023 Collection System Person of the Year.
Rosemary Menard, water director in Santa Cruz, California, retired after a 43-year career in local government and water utilities. She had served as water director since 2014.
Janna Orkney, an 18-year member of the Triunfo Water and Sanitation board of directors, resigned from the eastern Ventura County (California) agency.
