TPO to Host Webinar On Alternative Treatment Options to Eliminate Lime Sludge Disposal Needs

Treatment Plant Operator magazine is teaming up with Veolia Water Technologies to offer a webinar titled “Evaluating Alternative Treatment Options to Eliminate the Need for Lime Sludge Disposal in Boynton Beach, Florida.” at 10 a.m. CST Thursday, Nov. 12.

The webinar will examine Boynton Beach, Florida's East Treatment Plant. The plant uses conventional lime softening followed by filtration, but it faced concerns that landfilling the plant’s sludge wouldn't be a long-term option. That’s why it looked into alternative treatment options to eliminate the need for lime sludge disposal. Veolia’s ACTINA pellet softener was pilot tested at the Boynton Beach East facility in the summer of 2020. A brief history of the facility will be discussed during this webinar, along with the results from the pilot testing and the subsequent full-scale evaluation.

Panelists for the webinar include Jake Hurley of Boynton Beach Utilities, and Tom Perry of Veolia Water Technologies.

Hurley is the associate engineer of Boynton Beach Utilities. He is a project engineer with five years’ experience in the water and wastewater industry. His work history includes both construction and design of water treatment facilities.

Perry has 23 years in the water and wastewater industry and is currently the director of Product and Market Development for Veolia Water Technologies.
