Plastics Pipe Institute offers design software

Plastics Pipe Institute (www.plasticspipe.org) offers online plastic pipe pressure design software for water distribution, transmission main systems and force mains. The free Web-based program enables industry professionals to perform calculations in accordance with AWWA and ASTM standards and assists in the selection of appropriate pipe class for the required design life. Standards used in PPI PACE include AWWA C900, C901, C905, C906, ASTM F714 and D2241. Principal authors for the project were Dr. Karl Lawrence and Dr. Mark Knight.

American Water names CFO, receives grant

American Water Works Co. named Susan N. Story chief financial officer. She succeeds Ellen Wolf who retired in January. Story has 30 years of utility experience. The company also received a research grant from the Water Research Foundation to partner with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and University of Alberta to determine the occurrence of nitrosamines in drinking water systems in North America. Total value of the project is $711,902 with $400,000 funded by the research foundation and a $311,902 in-kind contribution from the project team. American Water will receive $137,200 to pay for research costs.

KROHNE offers Web-based training

KROHNE offers Web-based training on measurement technologies through its KROHNE Academy. The audio-enhanced, interactive courses focus on either a measurement technology, such as variable area, vortex, ultrasonic or mass flow, or general topics, such as the basics of gas measurement or pipeline leak detection. Training is free and is not specific to individual products and/or industries.

WesTech names international business unit leader

WesTech Engineering named Philip Lake leader of its international business unit. He has 19 years experience in the sedimentation equipment industry. Lake will be based in the company’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mitsubishi Caterpillar names president, executive VP

Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America named Ken Barina president. He succeeds Hiroshi Nagai. Barina was vice president of corporate planning and services at MCFA. Nagai, who returns to a new assignment at MHI in Japan, served as MCFA president for two years. The company also promoted Kent Eudy to executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Mazzei names director of analysis and VP of development

Mazzei Injector Co. named Dr. Sri Pathapati director of CFD analysis and engineering and Celia Cobar vice president of research and development.

Xylem acquires MultiTrode

Xylem acquired MultiTrode Inc., a privately held Australian-based water and wastewater technology and services company, for approximately $26 million. MultiTrode has 60 employees with offices in the United States and United Kingdom.

BASF adds U.S. sales contacts

BASF Water Solutions named Tim LeTourneau head of membrane solutions and Scott Caothien technical sales support manager for membrane solutions. LeTourneau has 25 years experience in the water industry and Caothien has 20 years experience.

Separmatic Systems adds regional sales manager

Separmatic Systems named Carl McCrary regional sales manager for the Northwest United States. He will be responsible for sales and public support for municipal water utilities and public utilities.

Industrial Safety acquires Simtronics

Industrial Safety Technologies acquired Simtronics AS, based in Oslo, Norway, and Simtronics SAS, based in Aubagne, France. Simtronics produces and installs gas and flame detection systems.

McElroy releases catalog, reference guide

McElroy issued its polyethylene pipe fusion catalog and reference guide. The catalog features product introductions, information on calculating fusion gauge pressure, facer blade replacement charts and pipe size reference charts. Copies are available for download at www.mcelroy.com/catalog.

Passavant-Geiger acquires Johnson Screens

Passavant-Geiger, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bilfinger SE, acquired Johnson Screens. Based in New Brighton, Minn., the company manufactures mechanical components for the separation of solids from liquids and gases and offers related services from 11 locations worldwide. The products are used for the extraction and treatment of drinking water, wastewater and refining applications for the oil and gas industry.

FRAKO capacitors receives Canadian certification

FRAKO Kondensatoren-GmbH LKT series capacitors received Canadian Standards Association certification. The capacitors also are UL approved and comply with EN/IEC requirements. They can be used in fixed or automatic power factor correction systems and harmonic filters.

Singer Valve adds sales managers

Singer Valve named Carlos Garcia and Clinton Smith account sales managers. Garcia has 20 years of water works experience and will be based in San Diego, Calif. Smith will be working out of Surrey, British Columbia.

SJE-Rhombus named Silver ESOP award winner

SJE-Rhombus was named a Silver ESOP award winner by The ESOP Association. The award recognizes companies for their work in sustaining an ESOP for 25 years. SJE-Rhombus was one of 26 corporate members to be honored by the association in 2013.

DeZURIK names president, COO

DeZURIK named Bryan Burns president and chief operating officer for the municipal and industrial valve manufacturing company. Larry Korf remains chief executive officer and has accepted a position on the board of directors.

Sauereisen names controller, regional manager

Sauereisen promoted Maureen E. Bankert to controller and Pete J. Jansen to Midwest regional manager. He will be responsible for Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.

InduSoft releases SCADA software service pack

InduSoft released a service pack for its SCADA software Web Studio v7.1. The free software is available for download at www.indusoft.com/blog/?p=1934. Available for InduSoft Web Studio v7.1 users, the service pack adds multi-touch development capabilities for touch-screen enabled devices. Without a keyboard or point device, users can navigate screens and issue commands for an entire system.

Brown and Caldwell names vice president, project finalist

Brown and Caldwell named Jeff Theerman vice president. He is the former executive director of the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. The consulting company also is a finalist for the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers for its Lake Oswego interceptor sewer project and Brightwater treatment plant in Woodinville, Wash.

UV Pure names wholesale distributor

UV Pure named Preferred Pump & Equipment as a wholesale distributor for its water system products in the United States.

Flowserve expands testing capabilities

Flowserve Corp. upgraded the open loop test bench at its Coslada, Spain, manufacturing and testing facility. The test bench covers 19,400 square feet and a depth of 27 feet. It can accommodate flows to 400,000 gpm and a total differential head of 34.4 feet. The addition of a multi-size discharge manifold provides the flexibility to test pumps with discharge ports to 108.3 inches.
