In water treatment-related applications, peristaltic pumps play an important role because they’re suitable not only with chemical substances used in these treatments, but also with liquids that are dense or contain suspended solids, without any risk of damage. They are vital in making sure the water from your wells is free of any toxins which could potentially harm the public. QED Environmental Systems, a manufacturer of environmental sampling products and subsidiary of Graco, recently announced the launch of the MicroPurge MP100 peristaltic pump system for low-flow groundwater purging and sampling.
Following a series of successful trials in both the U.S. and U.K., the MicroPurge MP100 is set to join the company’s comprehensive range of groundwater sampling solutions, according to David Kaminski, senior vice president at QED Environmental Systems.
“Our new MicroPurge MP100 system has been designed with the user in mind,” says Kaminski. “Every aspect of the pump — from the choice of materials to the battery life — has been designed for practical operation in the field.”
The MP100 system can produce flow rates of up to 0.4 gpm and lifts up to 30 feet using standard silicone tubing sizes. The MP100 features an efficient motor and pump head, offering precise flow control from zero to maximum to grant the user maximum control over the purging and sampling process.
The new pump is ideally suited for sampling PFAS, due to the water sample only making contact with the drop tubing in the well. It is offered with disposable pump tubing and drop tubing for portable applications, or can be configured with an available well cap and tubing weights for dedicated applications. It is also easy to clean and sterilize, thus guaranteeing zero contamination.
The new peristaltic pump has been specially designed for operation in the field, with a rugged, high-strength molded case for added protection. The brushless DC motors offer a long battery life with low power consumption, allowing more work to be completed between charges, while the voltmeter on the panel allows battery charge status to be checked at a glance.
“We have received excellent results from field testing both in the U.S. and the U.K., so look forward to seeing how this is received by the wider market,” says Kaminski.
