Operators at the North Texas Municipal Water District oversee six water treatment plants with the capacity to deliver 840 mgd to some 1.7 million people in 80 communities north and east of Dallas, from booming suburbs to bucolic rural enclaves. Meanwhile, five operators oversee the work of more than 1.3 million water-treating plants — plants rooted in one of the largest man-made water treatment wetlands in the United States.
