Manhole Grinder Install PDF Brochure WEB

For existing facilities where space is limited, adding sewer maintenance access can be difficult. Prefabricated grinder manhole packages provide a solution for integrating solids reduction into wastewater systems without requiring major infrastructure modifications. These systems are used in a variety of applications, including hospitals, correctional facilities, stadiums, schools and residential areas, where effective solids management is necessary in constrained environments.

Design and construction

The grinder manholes are watertight enclosures, ensuring long-term durability and resistance to corrosion. Their compact, prefabricated design reduces the space required for installation compared to traditional concrete structures, making them ideal for retrofitting in tight locations. Additionally, prefabrication minimizes on-site construction time and labor costs, reducing overall project expenses. The manholes are available with fiberglass access ladders, intermediate platforms, and optional ventilation components. Depending on site requirements, they can be configured for either pedestrian or vehicular load-bearing capacities.

Available sizes and configurations

To accommodate different site conditions and flow capacities, grinder manholes are available in multiple diameters: 48 inch, 60 inch, 72 inch and 96 inch.

Configurations include single grinder setups, dual grinders, or combinations of grinder and bypass channels, allowing for flexibility in system design.

XRipper twin-shaft grinder

Each grinder manhole package integrates an XRipper twin-shaft grinder to reduce large solids and debris in wastewater flows. The XRipper features one-piece, hardened steel rotors that deliver consistent torque and long-term durability. Unlike other twin-shaft grinders that use individual blades and spacers, XRipper’s one-piece cutter stack can’t loosen as they wear. When it is time to replace worn parts, Ripper Rotors are easily swapped out on site, and cost far less than replacement programs from other manufacturers.

Applications and considerations

These systems provide practical solutions for:

  • Facility management – Helps mitigate clogging issues and reduces maintenance requirements for downstream pumps and sewer lines.
  • Construction and installation – The prefabricated design allows for simplified installation, reducing material and labor costs compared to traditional site-built structures.
  • Engineering and planning – Suitable for locations with limited space or restricted access where traditional wastewater handling solutions are impractical.

Prefabricated grinder manholes serve as an efficient method for solids reduction in wastewater systems, offering a compact and adaptable solution to prevent blockages and maintain operational efficiency while optimizing installation costs.
