Editor's Note: Hundreds of exhibitors displayed water and wastewater equipment — from the tried-and-true to the latest and greatest — at WEFTEC 2015, presented by the Water Environment Federation in Chicago on Sept. 27-30. Watch for the Innovation logo to learn more about new products displayed at the clean-water industry’s flagship exhibition and conference.

Integrated pump monitoring. Rockwell Automation offered an integrated motor and pump protection system using the Logix processor. A 10-inch PanelView displays motor and pump health and diagnostics. The system monitors all critical parameters including current, voltage, temperature, energy, and motor and pump vibration. It is available for variable-frequency drives, softstarters, full-voltage motor starters and motor control centers. It performs real-time annunciation pf asset health, facilitating predictive maintenance. www.rockwellautomation.com.

Nano-PLC. Crouzet Automation introduced the em4 nan-PLC with remote capabilities. It provides a fully integrated solution that allows online connectivity without additional modules. It includes em4 remote for connecting secure infrastructure through the Web or a smartphone, em4 alert for sending alarms by SMS or email, and em4 local for applications that do not require remote communication or need only a local area network. 619/210-1617; www.crouzet.com.

Vertical motor. Nidec Motor Corp. introduced the 6813 TITAN II motors in ratings from 500 to 4,000 hp and in speeds from 400 to 1,800 rpm. The frame vertical motors are custom-built to user specifications. They include WPI and WPII weather-protected enclosures. They can be built with a solid or hollow shaft in either low or medium voltage. Oil-lubricated bearings are standard on high- and extra-high-thrust capacity designs. 888/637-7333; www.www.usmotors.com.

Pipe Coupling. Victaulic displayed the Refuse-to-Fuse Style 905 pipe coupling, designed to install up to 10 times faster than traditional fusing. The coupling installs without disassembly and can be properly installed using an impact gun or standard socket wrench; no special training or regular certification is needed. No heating or cooling time is required and the device can be installed on new, used or dirty pipe. Available in 2- to 6-inch sizes, it meets or exceeds the rating of the pipe. 610/559-3300; www.victaulic.com.

Effective screening. Ovivo displayed the Bongo Series of single- and double-aperture fine screens with a flow-through design for gravity or pumped flows. Influent enters the center of a drum and flows through 3 mm Brackett Green ProPaPanel screening panels that remove large debris without hair pinning. The wastewater then flows through a second-stage mesh (typically 1,600-micron but customizable to the application) from the outside to the center of the drum. Grit can be removed from the side or pumped out of the tank. The system has low headloss, typically below 6 inches. The system offers low capital, construction and operating costs, no screening carryover or bypass, and high capture efficiency. 855/466-8486; www.ovivowater.com.

Accurate flow measurement. KROHNE offered the TIDALFLUX 2300 F electromagnetic flowmeter with an integrated, non-contact capacitive level for measuring flow in partially filled pipes. The unit is designed for flow streams that fill 10 to 100 percent of the pipe diameter. The device is wet-calibrated at factory and does not require on-site calibration. The unit’s electrodes are mounted at a height of 10 percent from the pipe bottom, ensuring they are always wetted to avoid corrosion from hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The capacitive level sensors are integrated in the liner and have no contact with the medium and are therefore unaffected by H2S and any residues or particles floating on the water surface or in the water. For subsoil installation or for areas that can be partially flooded, the unit can be ordered in an IP68 protection rating version with special coating. 978/535-6060; www.us.krohne.com.
