The first graduating class of the Water Environment Federation Water Leadership Institute (WLI) was honored with a ceremony at WEFTEC 2012 in late September. The program is designed for emerging leaders in the water industry, which can include those already working in drinking water, wastewater and stormwater, or young professionals just starting out.

Instructors from water and wastewater utilities, government agencies and financial groups teach participants about the challenges the industry faces.

According to the online edition of WEF Highlights, WLI graduate and WEF technical program coordinator Rebecca Arvin says she was able to network with professionals in the water sector who share an enthusiasm to learning about similar topics.

WLI curriculum includes management training and leadership development through networking with current industry professionals and problem solving.

Participants completed and presented final projects and took part in group discussions at the graduation ceremony.

Curriculum topics and scheduling are in the works for the 2013 program.
