NETZSCH Pumps North America introduced the N.Mac twin-shaft grinder at WEFTEC. The technology is designed to protect pumps and downstream processes by fragmenting inorganic solids in wastewater treatment plants, biogas and biomass plants, food processing and animal processing facilities, and other applications.

Available in channel and inline (flanged) housing construction, the unit can be installed in effluent channels or upstream from a pump. Complementing the company’s existing product lines, the device provides an upstream application to core pump technology. With cartridge cutting knives for quick and simple replacement and servicing, it offers quenched lubricated mechanical seals for dry running.

The mechanical seal cartridge design is a leak-free combination of mechanical seal and bearing cartridges, enabling quick and simple replacement and servicing.

For higher-flow applications, grinders can operate in parallel, enabling partial servicing while in operation. Grinders can also be stacked for successive particle size reduction. An optional control panel offers an auto-reverse function to retract jammed media.

The grinder has modular assemblies and interchangeable components that facilitate universal parts servicing. Dual recessed and self-collapsing lifting tabs simplify pullout for servicing. Flanged versions include cleanout and inspection ports. Dual tempered hexagonal shafts are designed for pre-indexed assembly and even transfer of load. A shock-absorption system enables long, quiet and trouble-free operation.

Models offer one to six cutter cartridges per shaft. Cartridges come pre-assembled with pre-stacked spacers and blades and are available in materials to suit the application. The cycloidal gearbox is maintenance-free for up to two years. The grinder comes standard with different cutting gear sizes for different shaft speeds to enable efficient grabbing and grinding.

Accessories include a control panel to enhance operator and equipment safety, a cutter cartridge cleaner that keeps the area free to cut and allows fluid passage, and a transmission shaft extension that elevates the electric motor to above the fluid limit.
