Problem: Québec City, Canada, one of UNESCO's prestigious World Heritage Sites, has decided to implement co-digestion of its 96,000 tons per year of biosolids and 86,600 tons per year of food waste to generate renewable natural gas. Dewatering was identified as a potential risk due to the need for very dry final solids and ultra-clean filtrate.
Solution: To ensure the high level of robustness and reliability required, Québec City selected the Fournier Rotary Press for its dewatering operations. Québec City has purchased six units of the eight-channel model, totaling 48 dewatering channels to separate the solid fraction from the liquid fraction, allowing both products to be recycled.
Results: "The tests of the rotary presses have thus far met our expectations. It's a high-performance piece of equipment that is easy to use and maintain. They contribute robustness and reliability to our process," says Erick Pelletier, operations superintendent, CBAQ.
