Esmil’s latest innovation in sludge dewatering has successfully been implemented at the Covington Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ohio, marking another significant milestone in the plant’s operational improvements.
Project overview
The Covington WWTP recently embarked on a series of upgrades aimed at enhancing its sludge processing capabilities. With an increasing need to dewater aerobically digested waste activated sludge more efficiently, the facility partnered with Esmil to deploy a cutting-edge solution tailored not only for current throughput demands but also for anticipated future expansions.
Equipment and installation
For this project, the following key components were provided and installed:
- One Multi-Disc Screw Press MDQ-402(1)
- One control panel
- One polymer feeder
- One flowmeter
The installation was executed seamlessly on site, with Esmil’s expert service personnel overseeing every step to ensure optimal setup and performance.
Overcoming challenges with innovative engineering
Initially, the plant’s requirements pointed towards the Multi-Disk Screw Press MDQ-401 model as the best fit for dewatering. However, with future capacity increases in mind, Esmil reserved an additional spot for an extra drum, thus evolving the configuration into the MDQ-402(1). This forward-thinking design ensures that all necessary electrical and mechanical provisions are already in place, facilitating an effortless upgrade when the need arises. The result is a perfectly engineered solution that meets both current and future operational demands.
Successful startup and performance
During the startup phase, Esmil’s service team meticulously followed an extensive checklist to guarantee that every component was properly configured. Once operational, the system quickly ramped up to the required 30 gpm, achieving an impressive output of 225 pounds of dry solids per hour in cake form. Notably, the cake’s dry solids content surpassed both the minimum requirements and the target specifications, showcasing the system’s robust performance.
Key advantages of MDQ technology
- Modular and scalable design: The Multi-Disk Screw Press MDQ series is engineered for both current performance and future expansion. The MDQ-402(1) model is designed with an extra drum spot, ensuring an easy upgrade path as capacity needs grow.
- Superior dewatering efficiency: MDQ technology delivers high throughput while consistently producing cake with dry solids content that exceeds industry targets.
- Enhanced operational reliability: With all necessary electrical and mechanical considerations built into the design, Multi-Disk Screw Press MDQ systems ensure smooth, hassle-free operation and lower maintenance costs.
- Energy efficiency: Optimized for efficient performance, the MDQ technology helps reduce operating costs while maintaining robust dewatering performance.
The Covington WWTP project stands as a testament to Esmil’s commitment to quality and innovation. By providing a dewatering system that not only meets but exceeds customer requirements, Esmil continues to set the standard for efficient and future-proof sludge dewatering solutions. With a flawless installation and a smooth startup process, this project is yet another success story in Esmil’s growing portfolio of advanced wastewater treatment technologies.
