Facing a limited supply of drinking water, Westminster, Maryland, plans to implement an indirect potable reuse system by adding membranes and UV light to its existing facility.

Known as PUREWater Westminster, it will be Maryland's first project to reuse wastewater for drinking. Another similar project is being considered in Anne Arundel County, which may inject purified wastewater into its groundwater aquifer.

Arizona Unlocks Infrastructure Financing for Rural and Tribal Communities

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Arizona Finance Authority recently announced the reactivation of the Greater Arizona Development Authority with a new round of financial assistance open as of Aug 1.

GADA, established in 1997, is a financing program that leverages private financing to assist rural communities and Tribal governments with the development of public infrastructure projects, including water projects.

GADA has been inactive for nearly 10 years. However, from 1997 to 2014 it supported 84 projects statewide by issuing $574 million in bonds to rural community projects.

Albany, New York Completes Beaver Creek Clean River Project

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the completion of the Beaver Creek Clean River Project in the City of Albany — one of the most environmentally impactful clean water infrastructure projects to be undertaken in the Capital District. This project aims to significantly improve the water quality of the Hudson River by screening and disinfecting over 300 million gallons of sewer overflows annually.

Construction is now underway on an associated Tide Gate project that will strengthen the impact of the Beaver Creek system. More than $57 million in state and federal investments helped make these projects possible, including $2.8 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding.
