October is traditionally the month when companies in the water and wastewater sector release new products and technologies. Here are several of the latest offerings of interest to operators of clean-water plants and drinking water systems.

PFAS treatment and destruction on site

Ovivo has partnered with E2metrix to develop and commercialize a complete integrated solution to treat and destroy PFAS, commonly called forever chemicals, and other emerging contaminants in water and wastewater.

Since December 2021 the two companies have collaborated to develop a commercially viable on-site treatment system to remove and destroy PFAS present in municipal drinking water using an electrochemical oxidation technology. The core offering is the ECOTHOR electrotechnology platform from E2metrix, already used in 200 installations treating a wide range of complex contaminants. This technology has been modified and tailored to optimize onsite PFAS destruction, under the product name ECOTHOR-EOx.

In pilot testing the technology has achieved up to 99% PFAS reduction and more than 85% reduction of total detectable PFAS in the water treated. The solution is also mineralizing the PFAS molecules into their elemental parts of carbon and fluorine, returning safe water to the environment at a full-scale facility. Visit ovivowater.com.

Immersible solids handling pump

Flowserve Corporation introduced the MF solids-handling pump, designed for reliability, low cost and long life in sewage handling service or where suspended solids are of particular concern. The MF pump is an end-suction, side discharge, mixed flow, non-clog unit with flow capacities up to 10,000 gpm and heads to 300 feet. It is immersible for up to 14 days.

The pump offers variety of nozzle position options and direct or independent motor mounting.

Hardened chrome steel wear rings add durability. The seal chamber accommodates packing or mechanical seals. Impeller clearance is adjustable. Multiple configurations are available to suit site-specific requirements Visit flowserve.com.

GIS integration for mapping software

MentorAPM announced improvements to its ESRI GIS integration capabilities with a new MapViews new tool that allows users to visualize changes and updates to GIS asset features before application.

The new map viewing capabilities allow different business units to display and stylize spatial data with work data without waiting for GIS experts. The new capability integrates with the end user’s ESRI GIS database and displays the information within the platform enabling any team, including operations, maintenance and capital planning, to view changes to GIS asset features before they are applied to the system.

The new level of GIS visibility and reporting further empowers utilities to optimize operations, maximize asset value, and make informed capital investment decisions. Visit mentorapm.com.

Continuous process monitoring and control

The IQ SensorNet product line from YSI, a Xylem brand, is a network-based monitoring and control system for small and large wastewater treatment facilities and is designed for ease of use, scalability and performance. Instruments in the IQ SensorNet line can help users optimize processes, increase efficiency, reduce energy usage and simplify compliance reporting.

IQ SensorNet is a modular system of controllers, modules and sensors that can be customized to meet facility needs. It can be expanded at any time as your facility’s needs evolve simply by adding add a sensor or module to the existing network. Devices can monitor influent, reduce energy use during aeration, monitor effluent, and control any part of the process, including biological nutrient removal, phosphorus removal, and return activated sludge lines. Efficient long-distance solids pumping

Seepex offers Smart Air Injection, combining a custom-built progressive cavity pump with compressed air conveying for transfer of heavy substances such as dewatered biosolids over long distances. Low pressure in the conveying pipeline reduces costs and extends service life. The company says smart air injection masters distances of up to 1,100 yards, handles directional changes flexibly, and easily overcomes differences in height. In combination with the company’s Easy Maintenance solution, the rotor and stator can be changed easily even when space is limited. The manufacturer states that energy consumption can be up to 72% less than with conventional conveying technologies. Visit seepex.com.

Mobile PFAS destruction technology

Enspired Solutions introduced the PFASigator system for on-site destruction of PFAS in water.

The company says the compact, mobile and versatile equipment can be used alone or plugged directly into existing water treatment systems to destroy PFAS and mitigate related risks at a cost comparable to existing capture and disposal options.

The technology destroys PFAS molecules in a wide array of circumstances including pH 3-12 and aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The equipment is modular and fully-automated and operates under atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature.

The treatment uses reductive defluoridation coupled with UV light to stimulate a reaction that disassembles PFA molecules to water, fluoride and simple carbon compounds. The addition of liquid catalysts increases energy efficiency in destruction of long- and short-chain PFAS. Visit enspiredsolutions.com
