Treatment Plant Makes a Successful Switch from UV Disinfection to Chemical Disinfection with PAA

The primary function of this wastewater treatment plant, located on the Ohio River in heavily industrialized northern Kentucky, is to disinfect both municipal and industrial wastewater prior to introducing the water back into the Ohio River.

Although the UV system in use was in good working order, issues arose due to heavy industrial loading containing significant contaminants. The UV system was simply unable to reliably meet mandated disinfection requirements. The switch was made to chemical treatment using peracetic acid (PAA).
