In 2014, a water treatment plant faced constant maintenance headaches due to leaking seals on a paddle dryer. Traditional packing seals failed within a few months, causing shaft damage and frequent cleanups from leaked material. These breakdowns disrupted operations and incurred significant costs from shaft repairs.

Seeking a long-term solution, SealRyt was called in to design a customized sealing system. The result: A combination of BLR and Style 7413 packing, flushed with air and paired with a self-adjusting gland follower. This follower was crucial for reaching the hard-to-access equipment, and minimizing manual adjustments.

The results were remarkable. Installed in September 2014, the seal operated without failure for seven years before being checked in 202, according to the manufacturer. As seen in the accompanying image, there was minimal wear on the shaft — a testament to the effectiveness of SealRyt's PackRyt solution.

By extending the seal life well beyond the usual outage cycle, the SealRyt system saved the plant substantial maintenance costs and it eliminated the recurring issue of material leakage and shaft damage.

The SealRyt Corp. was founded in 2001 to develop, patent and manufacture alternative sealing devices. The company’s personnel have substantial experience in the fluid and gas sealing industry — some over 30 years.
