The World Water Day organization is designating 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation. In the U.S., plans are underway for events to commemorate World Water Day on March 22. A coalition of individuals, faith-based groups, civic organizations, non-profit organizations, for-profit companies, and philanthropic foundations will be calling for increased commitments by the U.S. government and private citizens to improve sustainable access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation for around the world. Planned activities around the nation include walks for water, fundraising events, and academic forums, all culminating in Advocacy Day on March 20 in Washington, D.C. on Capitol Hill.
