The Red River Regional Wastewater Authority received the 2012 Spirit of Kentucky Award on Aug. 16 at the 37th Annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference. The award for the regional wastewater project was presented by Governor Steve Beshear and Department for Local Government commissioner Tony Wilder.
After more than a decade of violations and enforcement actions for exceeding the plant’s permitted capacity, the authority pooled funding from several organizations for a $13 million project to combine the wastewater treatment plants of two cities into a single expanded plant, according to a release from the Governor’s office.
