The biosolids handling plant in Austin, Texas, will soon be making more power than it uses with a new biogas-fueled generator. The generator at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant is expected to go online in November.
The 700 kW generator will fulfill the entire plant demand of 500 kW, and the excess power will go into the Austin Energy power grid – enough electricity for about 370 homes. The value of that power will be credited to the Austin Water Department. The generator was funded through federal stimulus funds.
By creating electricity from biogas, Austin Energy says it will reduce carbon
