A consortium of educational institutions have announced their participation in the European Union-funded AQUASOL project, which is working to address global water scarcity through renewable energy-powered desalination.

AQUASOL brings together a multidisciplinary team of seven partners from six countries to explore and develop innovative solutions to facilitate green transition in desalination processes. To achieve this, the consortium will develop a technological platform that will enable the integration of renewable energy sources into desalination technologies and provide disruptive solutions for seawater and wastewater treatment.

World Future Awards Honors VVater’s Breakthrough Technology

VVater has been named a winner of the 2025 World Future Award in the Technology category. The company was honored with the Best Water Treatment Solution award, recognizing VVater's leadership in creating scalable, chemical-free solutions to address the world's most urgent water challenges.

The World Future Awards spotlight companies at the forefront of innovation and impact. VVater stood out for its proprietary Farady Reactor technology. These innovations eliminate the need for chemicals, filters or membranes in purification, offering a powerful and sustainable alternative to conventional treatment methods. The system removes PFAS, pharmaceuticals, pathogens and microplastics without generating harmful byproducts.

EPA Funding Targets Lead Contamination

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced a total of $26 million in funding for states and territories to address lead in drinking water at schools and child care facilities. Since 2018, EPA has provided over $200 million to help reduce exposure to lead in drinking water where children learn and play.

EPA will allocate grant funding to states and territories through the Voluntary School and Child Care Lead Testing and Reduction Grant Program. Total allotment amounts for each of the 50 states, D.C. and four territories can be found on the grant website. Tribal allotments for this program will be released separately.
