Federal officials and California congressional members recently announced a $400 million expansion and upgrade project for the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant near the U.S.-Mexico border to mitigate cross-border sewage issues.

Scheduled to begin this year, the project aims to double the plant's capacity and prevent up to 90% of untreated wastewater from reaching the coastline, with structural assessments and concrete repairs planned through 2025.

San Diego to Pay Settlement for Inaccurate Utility Asset Maps

The City of San Diego is set to pay nearly $1.5 million to settle three lawsuits, including $1.26 million to a construction company after delays caused by inaccurate city maps prolonged a Mission Beach sewer and water mains project.

The remaining settlements address two injury claims in Ocean Beach tied to faulty pavement and sidewalk issues.
