After five days, Memphis (Tennessee) Light, Gas and Water lifted the boil-water advisory affecting over 600,000 people in Memphis. The advisory was a response to freezing temperatures causing widespread pipe bursts.
The cold spell impacted not just Memphis but also numerous other Tennessee water systems, leading to boil-water notices and operational issues across the state. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reported that over two dozen water systems were under advisory, and 19 counties faced water utility challenges.
