Challenge

Evoqua Water Technologies (part of Xylem) has been selected by Carolina Water Service Inc. of North Carolina, through its sales partner Premier Water, to design, manufacture and install a turnkey wastewater treatment system located in the gated golf course community of Brandywine Bay in Morehead City, North Carolina. The plant design will increase reliability, maintain compliance with state regulations, and ensure plant operators' safety.

Solution

Evoqua will provide a stainless steel OMNIPAC field-erected sequencing batch reactor system designed to treat 0.3 million gallons per day which will replace an existing wastewater treatment system that is nearing the end of its useful life. Evoqua, along with Stroud Engineering from Greenville, North Carolina, provided a thorough evaluation of the existing system and recommended best options for a long-life wastewater treatment solution that would meet total nitrogen limits.

Results

The OMNIPAC SBR system is pre-engineered and factory-built, providing a less capital-intensive approach to treatment plants than form-built, concrete-basin plants. The design eliminates the need for multiple treatment tanks, separate clarification, and sludge recycle systems requiring less yard piping and easy access to maintenance. The result is a highly flexible and efficient treatment system that can be operational in months instead of years. Stroud Engineering worked closely with Evoqua to provide the engineering and design with Jones and Smith Contractors of Winterville, North Carolina, as the general contractor for this project.
