The Milford Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant was hauling liquid sludge that was getting more and more costly to deal with. After piloting multiple technologies and manufacturers, the BDP Rotary Drum Thickener was selected as the basis of design because of its ease of operation, superior performance and reduced maintenance. 

BDP’s dual drum design, with common feed and discharge, allows for redundancy in place and the ability to turn up the throughput capacity. Two dual drum units were installed in August 2019 and thicken the plant's combined sludge to over 6.0%. The enclosed units allow for a spotlessly clean room with all process fluids and gasses completely contained.

The Rotary Drum Thickener from BDP Industries effectively thickens various water, wastewater and industrial biosolids. With its compact design, trouble-free operation, low maintenance, and enclosure for odor control, it is an ideal option for many thickening applications. BDP has manufactured the same fundamental design with an internally baffled center shaft support since 1978. Since then, it has been revised to include more features and increase design efficiency. The design includes an initial sealed thickening zone for increased flocculation time, and trunnion supports that are located on the center shaft outside of the enclosure, keeping them away from the process fluids.
