The Hydraulic Institute recognized and honored Patrick Hogg, vertical and variable speed motor product manager for Nidec Motor Corporation, as HI’s Young Engineer of the Year award recipient. The award was presented to Hogg during HI’s 2016 Annual Conference.

The award was established to recognize the efforts and contributions of young pump engineers from member companies and standard partners who have made a significant impact within their current position and have also contributed to the advancement of the work of the Hydraulic Institute.

In his role at Nidec, Hogg coordinates the design, manufacturing, marketing and sale of the critical vertical and variable speed motors, and works closely with the government relations group to provide input on new government regulations that will directly affect the motor and pump industry.

Hogg participates in Nidec’s Great Idea committee, which was formed to promote idea generation. These ideas better the company operations, the community and the environment. He actively trains and mentors young employees to help them understand the company, industry and Nidec’s product.

With the HI, he has been active on many committees. He has held training sessions to promote synergy and product knowledge and has co-authored and contributed to technical white papers and industry publications. He has also received an award for HI contributions to publishing a guidebook on variable frequency drives and received the Very Important Participant award for participation and commitment of time to HI and all of its technical committees.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he received a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, Hogg is currently pursuing an MBA degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
