Greenville Water’s Stovall Water Treatment Plant received the rarely achieved Phase IV Presidents Award recognition from the Partnership for Safe Water.

The Partnership program is a national initiative developed by the U.S. EPA, the American Water Works Association and other water organizations representing water suppliers striving to provide their communities with drinking water quality that surpasses the required federal standards, through treatment plant and distribution system optimization. Phase IV goals are the highest possible level of performance that can be achieved in the four-phased program. The Presidents Award recognizes achieving Phase IV’s very stringent treatment plant filter performance goals for turbidity. Greenville Water has been participating in the Partnership for Safe Water treatment program since 2001.

Greenville Water owns and maintains over 26,000 acres of highly protected mountain watersheds in their natural pristine condition. As a result the quality of the water is very high. The Stovall Water Treatment Plant utilizes an innovative filtration/treatment technique known as dissolved air flotation to treat up to 75 mgd.

“Reaching Phase IV Presidents Award status is a very significant achievement in our ongoing effort to provide high-quality water and a sustainable future for our customers in Upstate South Carolina,” stated David Bereskin, CEO of Greenville Water. “The Presidents Award is an important milestone as we seek to continuously improve, and ultimately satisfy, the requirements for the Excellence in Water Treatment Award.”

The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary self-assessment and optimization program for water treatment plant and distribution system operation. More than 220 utility subscribers, collectively serving more than 85 million people, are committed to the Partnership’s goals of providing safe, high-quality drinking water through operational excellence in water treatment.
