Kruger BioCon ERS dryer for PFAS removal

Rising concern of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination of water and soil has sparked interest in this emerging contaminant as it pertains to wastewater sewage sludge. BioCon ERS from Kruger offers a safe and sustainable drying and combustion system for treating PFAS-laden municipal sludge. It combines the efficiencies of a convective-air, medium-temperature belt dryer with a biomass furnace, which uses the dryer output (dry product) as a biofuel. The heat available in the exhaust is captured and used as process heat in the belt dryer. This integrated dryer and energy recovery system is sustained by heat generated by the combustion of biosolids to drive the drying process, and in turn, the dried material fuels the combustion system, making it a fully energy-sufficient and sustainable operation. It combusts sludge at a temperature higher than the minimum required for PFAS destruction. 919-677-8310; www.veoliawatertech.com

Centrifuges/Separators

Centrisys/CNP centrifuge

Centrifuges from Centrisys/CNP apply 3,000 g (G-force) to dewater solids while accelerating the liquid end sedimentation of fine particles, resulting in drier solids and cleaner discharge water, which may reduce disposal costs. With a hydraulic back drive system, a centrifuge delivers high torque and low horsepower to reduce moisture in an energy-efficient manner. The three-phase centrifuge divides feed into solids, water and FOG from the grease trap or other biodiesel production sources. Inside the centrifuge, lighter oil separates from the water and discharges through an adjustable nozzle, while the heavier solids dewater and discharge from the opposite end. Centrifuges are available with flow rates of 5 to 700 gpm and can be a stationary skid-mounted unit or a mobile trailer. 262-654-6006; www.centrisys.com

Chemical/Polymer Feeding Equipment

AdEdge Water Technologies ADIN CO2

The ADIN CO2 injection system from AdEdge Water Technologies is an alternative to other methods of alkalinity control and pH reduction. It’s ideal for the reduction of alkalinity prior to primary treatment components for optimizing contaminant removal. The system uses carbon dioxide gas, which when released in water, forms carbonic acid — a weak acid that immediately reacts with alkalis to reduce pH. As a gas, carbon dioxide is inert, noncorrosive and easy to store. With the use of the included monitoring equipment and injector, the control panel can be used in several different configurations to reduce pH. The automatic systems use a pH probe downstream of the system to regulate the amount of carbon dioxide being injected into the water. An injector and mixer are provided with all systems for optimal injection. A manifold and regulators are provided for carbon dioxide cylinders. 866-323-3343; www.adedgetechnologies.com

Grit Handling/Removal/Hauling

WEMCO Pumps Hydrogritter

The WEMCO Pumps Hydrogritter is a grit classifier system that removes 95% of particles of 105 micron/150 mesh with a specific gravity of 2.65 and greater. The unit’s main purpose is to protect downstream equipment from damage due to abrasive wear. A cyclone concentrates the grit slurry to approximately a 10-1 ratio. After the grit is concentrated, it drops into a settling pool, specifically sized for removing fine grit. When in the pool, the grit particles settle, while the lighter particles, such as organics, float and are carried over the weir at the end of the pool, to be returned to the wastewater stream. The settled grit is then carried up the inclined bottom of the unit to the discharge chute, where it is dropped into a dumpster for final disposal. 801-359-8731; www.trilliumflow.com
