Instrumentation + Get AlertsThe A2 ProSeries Flex-Pro peristaltic metering pump from Blue-White Industries offers advanced communications, a high-pressure delivery system and tube failure monitor in a NEMA 4X enclosure.
Developed for small- to medium-sized water treatment plants, the pump is available in A2F and A2V models. Both have a maximum feed rate of 11 gph and a turndown ratio of 100:1. The A2F has a basic manual speed adjustment unit; the A2V also offers advanced input/output communication and optional ProfiBus, ProfiNet, Modbus and Modbus TCP controller.
“The real advantage of the A2 is its robust enclosure, the advanced communication and the high-pressure capabilities,” says Rob Gledhill, vice president of manufacturing. An alternate to solenoid pumps, it fits applications including chemical metering, chlorination, chloramination, fluoridation and polymer injection.
“Peristaltic technology has come a long way the past decade,” Gledhill says. “Typically these pumps were found in laboratory environments because of their pressure limitations. They are very accurate pumps, and with recent advancements in electronics, tubing design and enclosure design, the peristaltic pump is now viable in municipal and industrial water treatment.”
The self-priming pumps have no valves and will not vapor lock. Tubing used in the A2 pumps is designed for long life and pressures up to 125 psi. Powered by a variable-speed DC motor, the pump has a maximum suction lift of 30 feet. The backlit LCD displays motor speed, input signal values, and service and alarm status. A degassing design keeps gas and air from forming in the pump head, while a tube failure detection system turns off the pump when it senses chemical escaping into the head.
“What typically happens in a peristaltic pump is when the tube ruptures, the pump is built to such precise tolerances that it continues to pump, and may cause a chemical spill if protective measures are not in place,” says Gledhill. “Our technology prevents this.”
Gledhill believes peristaltic pump tubing will continue to advance, achieving even longer life and greater accuracy at higher pressures: “We are continuously testing different compound blends and tube designs and are committed to tubing innovation.” 714/893-8529; www.blue-white.com.
