The Central Minnesota Water Education Alliance (CMWEA) has put out a call for entries for its 2013 “Make the Water Connection” TV ad contest.

Open to ninth through 12th grade students in Steams County and Sauk Rapids, students can enter individually or as a group. A teacher must sponsor each entry, and the entry deadline is April 18, 2013.

Sponsor teachers are in place to “encourage students’ participation and provide general guidance in how to plan an ad and enter the contest.”

According to the group’s website, winning entries and honorable mention entries will be showcased on the website, as well as on cable public access television in the St. Cloud area.

The 30-second TV ads need to be based on one of the 2013 top ten water protection tips found at the Make the Water Connection website. The tips include:

  1. Cigarette Butts are Litter Too
  2. What’s Wrong with Dog Waste
  3. Trash and Dumpster Management
  4. Eliminate Grass Clippings Going Into the Street
  5. Establish a Vegetative Pond Buffer
  6. Be Green, Help Keep Our Stormwater Ponds Clean!
  7. Green Lawn Care
  8. Keep a Lid On It!
  9. Read Product Labels
  10. Residential Erosion Control

Three winning entries will receive a $700 award paid directly to the school’s sponsoring teacher, a $300 prize package, and the legendary Ducky Award. “[The Ducky Award] is the most coveted filmmaking award in Central Minnesota,” says the website.
