The new water treatment plant in Canton, Mass., was unveiled on Sept. 23. In operation since April, the 7,000 square foot, $11 million Edward M. Sullivan Water Treatment Plant is the town’s second water treatment facility.
The Canton Journal says Edward M. Sullivan was considered a “tireless pioneer” to make the town more independent for its water supply. The 1.8 mgd plant will reduce Canton’s reliance on a regional water organization, the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA). Local officials say producing water locally will save money.
Sullivan was on the MWRA Advisory board from 1987 to 2011, was on the town’s Board
