The Associated Press reports that the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment approved a plan for the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department to use reclaimed wastewater for irrigation.
According to a report in the The Lawrence Journal-World, utilities program manager Jeanette Klamm said last summer’s drought influenced the decision to seek approval for the plan, which involves integrating the recalimed water from the wastewater treatment facility into the city’s irrigation plan.
