It depends on where you are and on your circumstances. Some wastewater treatment plants prefer not to accept septage – either they’re too close to capacity already, or they feel the high BOD loadings could upset their processes. Others have the capacity and can use the revenue or have some other motivation.
The City of Mount Dora, Fla., apparently is in the latter category. The city Public Works and Utilities Department is using a Lucky Dumper contest to encourage septic system cleaning contractors to bring their loads of waste.
