New WPDES Permits will require many communities to comply with much lower phosphorus discharge limits. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has imposed the new limits because many streams in the state are not meeting water quality goals, according to a news release from the MSA Professional Services consulting firm.
“For some communities, impacts will be significant,” said MSA vice president Gilbert Hantzsch, P.E. “Many of the state’s treatment facilities will need to make serious changes to meet much stricter phosphorus standards within the next 10 years.
