CBS News in British Columbia is reporting that some residents of the Salmon Valley, near Prince George, will not allow a farmer to apply biosolids from the city to his fields. They blocked a frozen gravel road to the farmer’s property to keep city dump trucks from carrying material to the site for storage until spreading in summer.
The residents say they are concerned about water contamination and odor. On Feb. 21, Royal Canadian Mounted Police told the people to dismantle their blockade, and city officials promised to address the concerns at a meeting that afternoon.
