Small Footprint Protection for Potable Water Treatment Plants Increases Efficiency

Water treatment plants with surface water intake systems can face a wide variety of operating conditions. Changes in flow volumes or turbidity can drastically affect the quality of the water entering your plant. In river water intakes, increased river flows can churn up sand that then pummels the water treatment plant. Many plants rely on massive storage ponds to allow this sand to settle out. These conventional ponds waste a tremendous amount of valuable plant space, and still require significant maintenance efforts to remove accumulated sand.

Other potable water treatment plants rely on chemical flocculation to settle out particles, which adds costs and reduces options to dispose of the captured materials. High-energy vortex separation with a TeaCup and Grit Snail system from Hydro International eliminates the need for chemicals. The system outputs clean, dry sand and can be installed in just a fraction of the footprint required for settling ponds or conventional clarification technologies.
