We are sailing in uncharted waters. But we also have to continue the job we've been doing well for decades. Resilience is nothing new to our industry, and this latest worldwide public health crisis is just another example of how we will continue to adapt to the changes happening around us. Greg Quist, Ph.D., is an elected director at the Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District in Escondido, California, and a tech innovator as the CEO of SmartCover. He'll explain how current technologies are providing sewer operators with the high-tech advantages of spotting sewer irregularities remotely, maintaining the highest levels of crew safety, preparing for the impending revenue shortfall and achieving regulatory compliance as we continue our vigilance in a different world of unknowns.

Greg Quist, Ph.D., is the co-founder, president and CEO of SmartCover, a technology company with an award-winning sewer monitoring system. A long-time member of the water community, Quist was elected to California’s Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District board of directors in 1990, where he has served for the past 30 years in various roles including president and treasurer. The district’s board appointed Quist to the San Diego County Water Authority board in 1996 for 12 years, where he led a coalition of seven agencies to achieve more than $1 million per year in water delivery savings. With a background in the areas of metamaterials, numerical analysis, signal processing, pattern recognition, wireless communications and system integration, Quist has worked as a technologist, manager and executive at Alcoa, McDonnell Douglas, and SAIC and has founded and successfully spun off several high-tech companies, primarily in real-time detection and water technology. He holds 14 patents with several pending. Quist earned his undergraduate degree in astrophysics with a minor in economics from Yale College, where he played football and baseball. He earned a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
