Water utilities have increased automation to improve efficiency. While IIoT has expanded the connectedness between networks and pushed a larger volume of data onto the network, this has enlarged the potential attack surface to malicious cyber activity that could disrupt or manipulate services. The presentation will highlight the challenges and discuss concrete tactics to help thwart cyberattacks.

Advanced technology is also available to help utilities meet the EPA’s new PFAs compliance. Complying with the regulation will be challenging, however, utilizing monitoring and reporting software will help utilities meet the requirements.

Presenters:

Cody P. Bann, director of engineering for SmartSights, holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in Computer Science from Boston University. He has 16 years of software development experience with the Austin-based company.  

David Nolan, senior applications engineer at SmartSights, holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Westfield State University and is based in the Boston, Massachusetts area. He has worked for SmartSights for approximately 10 years, assisting customers in many industries and applications, including water/wastewater and authorities with automating environmental regulatory compliance.
