Ohio Treatment Plant Keeps Compliance Up, Costs Down

High upkeep costs and daily headaches were the norm for the Village of Ohio City Wastewater Treatment Plant until it was replaced with modern equipment in 2011.

Life got a lot easier in 2011 for Jeff Smith, chief operator of the Village of Ohio City Wastewater Treatment Plant. That’s when the city’s old plant – which couldn’t meet compliance – was replaced with a new one featuring a Gorman-Rupp lift station, three 400-gpm submersible pumps, a JWC Environmental auger screening system, two 30,000-gallon final clarifiers and a five-rack TrojanUV disinfection system.

Smith and visiting operators all agree on their favorite components at the new plant, though: the Aerzen blowers. “They run very quiet,” says Smith. “I think in a city situation, where you’re more in a population, the noise factor would be really beneficial if you had a blower like the Aerzen blowers.”

Let Smith take you on a trip through his state-of-the-art plant, and he’ll show you just how much time and money the Village of Ohio City has saved on maintenance in the past five years.
