The latest innovations in wastewater and drinking water treatment were on display last month at annual international exhibition and technical conference in New Orleans. Here is a look at some noteworthy items viewed by some of the more than 21,000 attendees:

Duperon displayed a fully submersible Dual Auger System as an alternative to grinders and chopper pumps for dealing with wipes in the wastewater stream. The device can be installed in wet wells or manholes as small as 17 inches in diameter. The screening unit consists of two vertical motor-driven counter-rotating augers. The unit’s vertical bar screen has a 0.71-inch bar opening (other size options available). As screenings are captured, a discharge chute extends vertically to compact, dewater, lift, and store debris without requiring additional augers. The solids are held in the chute or discharged to a fully contained bin for odor control and aesthetics. 800-383-8479, www.duperon.com

Cla-Val introduced Cla-Cover aluminum enclosures, designed for the company’s Cla-Val control valves. The combination is designed to enable consistent performance in all weather. The enclosures are constructed with marine-grade aluminum and sealed-on polyisocyanurate insulation for an R9 value on the sides and R18 on the top and bottom panels. They are braced with sustainable and durable California redwood. These covers meet ASSE 1060 standards, are certified for freeze protection, and include a leak-detection system for easy inspection. Each enclosure can be fitted with a wall-mounted heater or heat cable based on size and application. Units are available in four standard colors with options for custom vinyl-wrap graphics. 800-942-6326, www.cla.val.com

Smith & Loveless presented the PISTA Grit chamber synchronous belt drive. Its synchronous power transmission toothed belt provides 5-7 years of maintenance-free operating life, according to the company. The system eliminates traditional oil changes for the gear box, saving on maintenance. It also eliminates oil overfill, oil bath and water intrusion, and oil disposal. It can be easily retrofitted to older oil-based PISTA gear units. 913-888-5201, www.smithandloveless.com

Franklin Electric introduced the Minetuff Series of electric submersible dewatering pumps from Pioneer Pump, specially designed for deep wells or space-limited sites. The pumps in 8 to 140 hp are cast in lightweight are designed to work in harsh environment from wastewater, to mining, to construction. Features include heavy-duty motors with integrated thermistors to protect against thermal overload, durable mechanical seals, duplex stainless steel impellers for toughness and corrosion resistance, polyurethane-coated wear parts, and light aluminum castings with thick walls for durability. 844-250-4982, www.pioneerpump.com

bNovate Technologies exhibited BactoSense automated online bacterial monitoring systems. The BactoSense CORE unit makes advanced flow cytometry technology easy and accessible, according to the manufacturer. It is designed for applications from remote catchment sites to industrial facilities and provides continuous monitoring with minimal downtime. The BactoSense SMART devices combine state-of-the-art flow cytometry with AI and enhanced data capability for water quality management and water research. 720-295-0886, www.bnovate.com

Jacobi Group highlighted odor control, wastewater and technical and service solutions, notably Ecosorb, AddSorb and AquaSorb granular carbon formulations to remove VOCs, hydrogen sulfide, organics and PFAS. The company operates with a strong focus on safety and takes innovative approaches to meet customer needs and reduce environmental impact. The company offers activated carbons based on coconut shell, bituminous coal, lignite, and wood. Products are offered in powdered, granular, extruded, spherical, and felt cloth forms. Also available are ion exchange resins and filter service solutions. 215-546-3900, www.jacobi.net

Elode presented an Evaporative Dryer (EVD) for producing Class A biosolids. The unit further dries biosolids cake produced by either by Elode electro-osmosis dehydration or mechanical dewatering equipment via belt press, screw press or centrifuge. The low temperature belt dryer processes cake at 10% or more dry solids and dries it up to 90% solids or greater, achieve Class A with an operating temperature at or below 85 degrees C. The dryer uses heat pumps in a closed-loop convection process to maximize heat recovery and minimize energy waste. It uses 400 kWh to remove one ton of water. In operation, cake enters the shaping machine inlet, which evenly extruded and distributes the material in a spaghetti arrangement across the belt. Dry warm air passes over the wet cake as two belts convey the dried cake to the exit. A/C evaporator fins capture the moisture. The dehumidified warm air is reheated by the heat pump and sent back into the drying chamber. The dried cake is discharged. 201-568-7778, www.eloseusa.com

Paneltim introduced versatile plastic panels for water and wastewater equipment, treatment and transport. The panels can be used to construct sanitary trailers of all kinds, as well as liquid tanks, water reservoirs, grease traps, and more. They can also be used to make tanks for water treatment systems. Units are designed to be easy to work with using standard saw, drills and screws. They can be joined to required dimensions by plastic welding. www.paneltim.com
