In the era of flushable wipes and a thousand disposal products, solids continue to be a battle for wastewater systems. Even as screening systems improve, it’s clear that they are not bulletproof. In an effort to keep systems functioning while reducing maintenance costs, the twin-shaft grinder is still a reliable option.

Vogelsang grinders have brought both design improvements and reduced costs to this technology segment, a welcome change to many treatment plants.

Vogelsang XRipper Giant (XRG), twin-shaft grinder technology

An extension of the company’s XRipper grinder line, the XRG line has been refined over the last three years and become a proven workhorse in high-flow and large channel applications found in headworks and lift stations.

Patented technology

Monolithic (one-piece) Ripper Rotors — Precision machined from high-quality hardened alloy, this cutter assembly is easy to remove in one piece without having to take out the complete grinder. This is a vast improvement over other twin-shaft grinders whose cutters are a column of stacked individual blades and spacers that can break down or wear unevenly.

Screening drum options

The XRipper Giant comes with either a single drum or double drum configuration, with maximum flows between 2,000 gpm/2.8 mgd and 31,000 gpm/45 mgd. Minimum channel width required for the single drum unit is 21 inches and 54 inches for the double drum unit

Straightforward replacement

The XRipper XRG models match all common sizing and outputs for other grinders in the market. Often, a simple bracket adjustment is all you need to replace your old grinder with an XRipper; the units are typically compatible with existing panels.

Easy maintenance

Maintenance time and costs for these traditional units is much higher than for the XRipper. Service technicians attending Vogelsang's recent Service School commented on how easy it is to service an XRipper, and that traditional cutter stacks in competitors' units are extremely time-consuming.
