Treatment + Get AlertsAdEdge Water Technologies has been awarded and is implementing a biottta (biologically tailored two-stage treatment approach) nitrate removal project for the City of Delano, Calif. — a community of 38,000 residents in the San Joaquin Valley. Current nitrate levels are not compliant with the California drinking water standard of 45 mg/L nitrate as NO3. The biottta treatment process uses naturally occurring bacteria to eliminate multiple contaminants from groundwater rather than creating harmful waste streams typically found in ion exchange and reverse osmosis applications.
AdEdge will design and manufacture a biottta treatment package rated for a maximum flow of 1 mgd. The treatment module consists of a vertical pressure vessel acting as a bioreactor and a second vertical pressure vessel serving as a biofilter. This simple and easy-to-operate treatment process is an ideal solution for small communities out of compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations.
“The first biottta treatment project is a milestone for biological drinking water treatment,” says Chad Miller, biottta product manager. “This innovative treatment process embodies the affordable, sustainable and robust approach that many communities could benefit from in the United States for drinking water treatment. We are excited to have this project demonstrate the effectiveness of biottta in the marketplace.”
