Editor's Note: Innovation was a big theme at WEFTEC 2014. We'll be featuring a few of the new and better technologies found in the exhibit hall at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Watch each day for the Innovation logo to learn more about new products displayed at the clean-water industry’s flagship exhibition and conference.

Alfa Laval offered a compact dewatering screw press built for reliability and high uptime. A direct-drive gear motor and a slow rotational speed help minimize power consumption and reduce noise. The system has a fully enclosed drum with inspection hatches and uses wedge wire screens instead of perforated screens to limit maintenance. The drive motor positioned on the discharge end of the press reduces risk of damage and simplifies service. The screen is washed intermittently to conserve water. A sludge/polymer mixer reduces polymer consumption while eliminating a floc tank with integral mixer. User-friendly controls allow minimal operation attention; process variables are easily adjusted.
