Editor's Note: Innovation was a big theme at WEFTEC 2014. We'll be featuring a few of the new and better technologies found in the exhibit hall at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Watch each day for the Innovation logo to learn more about new products displayed at the clean-water industry’s flagship exhibition and conference.

Aqua-Aerobic Systems presented the Aqua MegaDisk filter, using OptiFiber pile cloth media for tertiary treatment in wastewater treatment plants with flow above 7 mgd. The unit is designed to provide the same reliability and performance as the original AquaDisk filter in a larger size.

Each disk is 10 feet in diameter and includes eight segments for ease of installation and maintenance. The filter can include up to 24 disks and treat 24 mgd. It has a 15 hp backwash pump and 5 hp drive motor. The filter achieves low TSS and NTU and accommodates high solids and high hydraulic loading rates. It has no moving parts except during backwash, which means low energy consumption. The filter offers high flux rates and low backwash rates and has a fully automatic PLC control system. Applications include water reuse and recycling, phosphorus removal and deep-bed filter retrofits.
