Providing versatile control

GA800 drive from Yaskawa America

There are typically multiple motor processes controlled remotely in water treatment plants. The control systems used to oversee those processes need to be easy to use and versatile enough to often handle multiple processes at once. The GA800 high-performance drive from Yaskawa America was recently introduced to the market especially for those applications.

Yaskawa advertises the GA800 as easy, powerful and extremely reliable, providing the ultimate combination of power, ease of use, flexibility and performance. Designed to control traditional and emerging motor technologies through 600 hp, the GA800 handles applications ranging from simple fans and pumps to high-performance test dynamometers requiring precise regulation. In addition to its durable and powerful design, the GA800 provides highly flexible network communications, embedded functional safety and easy-to-use tools featuring mobile device connectivity.

As Yaskawa’s new industrial general-purpose AC drive product, the GA800 will address every application handled by its predecessor, the A1000 drive, and more. Key features include a high-resolution, multilanguage display with setup wizards and data logging, Bluetooth and DriveWizard Mobile for convenient and easy interaction. DriveWizard Mobile is a free application tool for use on both Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. It provides colorful, intuitive drive programming, parameter backup, cloud access, troubleshooting help and access to mobile-friendly instructions.

The unit comes equipped with Yaskawa Drive Cloud, providing free storage for specific configuration information pertaining to a facility’s drives. It allows the operator to store things like parameter sets, application notes and photos unique to each drive with their own serial number and account credentials. The information is secure and only accessible by the operator.

In addition, the drive can be programmed without main power through an embedded USB port. An Advanced Open Loop Vector produces suitable torque and near tripless operation, while an integrated brake transistor (up to 125 hp) allows for cost-effective heavy braking, and an embedded Safe Torque Off feature minimizes downtime for applications requiring occasional intervention (SIL CL3, PLe, Category 3). A standard conformal coating helps resist contamination.

The G800 drive is available in 240-volt AC three-phase (1 to 150 hp) and 480-volt AC three-phase (1 to 600 hp) models. It is designed for use around the world and carries agency certifications for all major geographical regions. 800-927-5292; www.yaskawa.com
