The Nebraska Water Environment Association inducted Jim Mahony, Hobas Pipe USA area manager Mid-Central, into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5S) on Nov. 3. According to the Water Environment Federation (WEF) website, selection recognizes “outstanding, meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty.” 

Mahony attended the University of Northern Colorado. He has held a variety of positions over his career including stationary engineer in the power industry and oilfield area manager drilling superintendent. He has worked in the sanitary sewer industry since 1995.

He has held various committee positions and contributed to the industry through work on NWEA scholarships, NWOD Advisory/Training, and the NWEA public education committee. He lives in Overland Park, Kan., with his wife, Julie.

Mahony has been employed by Hobas Pipe USA of Houston since 2004. This is the second ‘Shoveler’ for Hobas: John Mele, area manager, North Atlantic was inducted in 2000.
