The Water Environment Federation Nutrient Recovery and Management 2011 conference will be held Jan. 9-12 at the Hilton Miami (Fal.) Downtown. The conference will assemble environmental professionals from around the world to discuss and debate the current state of nutrient recovery. Breakthroughs in research, design, and operational issues will be front and center, and there will be discourse on policy and management approaches to nutrient control.

The event begins on Sunday, Jan. 9, with three pre-conference workshops covering biofilm technologies, nutrient regulations, and process control and sustainable practices for nutrient removal facilities. There will be tours of the South Florida Water Management District's stormwater treatment areas (Monday, Jan. 10) and the Miami-Dade County South District Wastewater Treatment Plant (Tuesday, Jan. 11).

Ticketed breakfast sessions will highlight South Florida's national parks and preserves (Tuesday, Jan. 11) and Everglades restoration (Wednesday, Jan. 12).

The technical program Monday through Wednesday covers a wide range of topics, including enhanced biological phosphorus removal, algae technology in nutrient management, watershed modeling, external carbon sources, greenhouse gas emission, advances in deammonification, and natural systems for nutrient removal.
