Tour a Plant Providing Drinking Water and Hydropower

Take a tour of Ann Arbor, Michigan’s 15 mgd water treatment plant, which also supplies hydroelectric power.

Join Brian Steglitz, water treatment services manager, as he offers a tour of Ann Arbor, Michigan’s 50 mgd capacity lime softening plant. Inside the plant’s control room, you’ll get a look at how Steglitz and his staff can remotely operate four dams throughout the city, including two that supply hydroelectric power. “So in addition to drinking water, we’re also responsible for power generation on the Huron River,” he says. The plant’s lab supervisor and utility supervisor also give details about their jobs at the plant, which provides clean drinking water to 125,000 citizens.
